A Los Angeles native, Robert grew up between Laguna and Malibu Beaches. For Robert the art influences of Los Angeles in the late 70's to mid 80's was centered around the punk and gay clubs and the art house cinemas. It was the music and a restless nature that took Robert first to the Front Range of Colorado (cowboy country) and then in 1986 to Germany (Werner Fassbinder). For the next 12 years he traveled extensively throughout Europe and North Africa always keeping a home base in the then West Berlin where he began to show his work professionally. A natural autodidact Robert worked at his art practice without much formal education in the visual arts until 2012 when living in Portland, Oregon. In the spring of 2016 Robert earned his BA in printmaking and photography from Portland State University. That summer Robert moved to Los Angeles where he practices his art, is building a garden and entering the MFA Printmaking program at California State University Long Beach in the fall of 2020.
